TRAVELLING
Visa Issues
Brazil has agreement for visa exception with several countries. PLEASE CHECK THE LIST in the page from the Brazilian Consulate in San Francisco, USA. Citizens from the countries listed there do not need a visa to enter and stay in Brazil up to 90 days.
Citizens from all other countries do need a tourist visa to enter in Brazil. This includes, among others: USA, China, Japan, Russia, Slovak Rep., Czech Rep., Canada and several more. The tourist visa provides coverage for attending scientific conferences, seminars, or meetings. Note that tourist visa holders are not allowed to engage in any paid activity in Brazil, but they can get per-diem allowances.
In order to request a tourist visa, it is necessary to contact the nearest Brazilian Consulate.
AMERICAN CITIZENS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT IT MIGHT TAKE MORE THAN ONE MONTH TO GET THE VISA IN THEIR CASE. For other citizens, it should usually take a couple of weeks or less. Please check this with the nearest Consulate as soon as possible.
The PIC06 LOC will provide a letter of invitation for those participants who request so and provide the following information:
» full name.
» passport number and country of expedition.
» full mailing address and a fax number to send the letter.
» names and passport numbers of accompanying persons, if any.
